"Biochemistry attempts to explain the activity of living systems at the molecular level as a basis for understanding not only metabolism and its disturbances but also other medically related fields, such as immunology, pharmacology, etc. Biochemistry has to provide a background for understanding disease processes and the way in which they are modified by treatment and also contributes to an understanding of chemical diagnostic methods.
