Department of Biochemistry

"Biochemistry attempts to explain the activity of living systems at the molecular level as a basis for understanding not only metabolism and its disturbances but also other medically related fields, such as immunology, pharmacology, etc.  Biochemistry has to provide a background for understanding disease processes and the way in which they are modified by treatment, and also contributes to an understanding of chemical diagnostic methods. Biochemistry has to train tomorrow's doctors so that today's students will be capable later on of coping independently with future biochemical contributions to medical progress"- Frunder, H (1975) Biochem Educ -
